KOTTEFARU THILA

Level: Advanced Open Water

Distance from Joali Being: 20 minutes by dhoni

This dive site is located on the atoll’s eastern side and consists of a large pinnacle with overhangs. Here you can see clouds of four-line snapper and fusilier being chased by dogtooth tuna and blue trevallies. In the shallow part, juvenile reef fish are usually chased by snappers and jackfish. Stingrays are resting in the overhangs, surrounded by soft corals and sea fans. In the small caves, it is easy to find brown marbled and black saddled groupers. Divers can also find schools of sweetlips, mackerels, and larger groupers. From June to November, the thila serves as a cleaning station for manta rays.

VAADHOO CAVES

Level: Advanced Open Water

Distance from Joali Being: 20 minutes by dhoni

VADHOO THILA

Level: Open Water

Distance from Joali Being: 35 minutes by dhoni

Vaadhoo Thila is often exposed to strong currents but is one of the most beautiful dive sites in the Maldives. The top of the thila is at a depth of 14 meters and lies in a west-east direction, fully colonized by Acroporae and colourful soft corals. On the western side, you’ll see detached rocks and overhangs, while on the east side are large coral blocks. It is impressive to swim between them because they are covered by beautiful soft coral and branched formations of hard coral with tons of fish. Here you’ll find a staggering number of fusiliers and jackfish, as well as big midnight snappers, rabbitfish, stingrays, grey reef sharks, and more.

VADHOO THILA

Distance from Joali Being: 35 minutes by dhoni

Labyrinth is a dive site in the middle of a wide channel. The top is made up of huge flat boulders up to 12 metres, where you’ll occasionally spot some tuna passing by. As you descend and swim along the magnificent canyons formed below, you’ll find colourful soft corals and schools of fish such as striped snappers, hump snappers, red snappers, jackfish, and many more. This canyon is full of life and is suitable even for beginner divers..
